Did you know over 50,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK every year?
With women over 40 at most risk it’s important to be aware of the symptoms and what to do if you notice a change or a difference in your breasts.
The Breast Unit at the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth consists of a multi disciplinary team led by leading Consultants and nurses who are dedicated to providing ultimate standards of care with swift diagnosis and treatment of breast conditions.
Our three Breast Cancer tips:
Check your breasts regularly
Every woman’s breasts are different so get to know yours and how they feel at different times of the month as this can change throughout your menstrual cycle. Get to know what is normal for you and you will be more aware of any changes that occur. You may find it easiest to check your breasts in the bath or shower as part of your routine.
Look out for changes
It’s important to seek medical advice if you notice a change in your breasts, however small you think it may be. Look out for a change in the shape, size or outline of the breast. Feel for lumps or bumps that may have not been there before and remember to also feel under your armpit. Look out for changes in your nipple position or if you notice any blood or unusual discharge.

If you notice a change in your breasts, whatever your age or family history, make an appointment to see a specialist.
