COVID-19 update:  Our hospital is still fully open for appointments and admissions, however visitors are not permitted.

Falls Prevention Programme

One in three people over 65 years old will have a fall this year. Unfortunately, our risk of falling increases as we age, and half of all people over 80 will experience a fall at some point. Evidence has shown that attending this type of programme to improve your strength and balance can significantly reduce your risk of falls and fall related injuries.

What you’ll receive

  • Initial Assessment
  • Personalised exercise program and falls prevention pack.
  • 8 weekly group exercise classes in the Rehabilitation gym space
  • Educational talks from experts in their field
  • Final assessment

What’s involved?

Physical activity classes

The exercise classes consist of balance and strengthening exercises to help improve your muscle strength, balance and coordination. We include functional activities to help you gain the ability to withstand threats to your balance.

Education

You will cover a range of educational topics related to the risk factors that lead to falling. We aim to empower our clients to take action in addressing the risk factors of falls with weekly checklists;

Topics include;

  • Vision – nutrition
  • Medication management – bone health and osteoporosis
  • Home environment – getting up off the floor
  • Introduction to adapted Tai Chi exercises.
  • Feet and footwear

After the programme

Once you have completed the program, we also provide a weekly exercise class for people who  would like to continue a weekly exercise class.

Our Appointments Team have a dedicated and caring approach to finding you the earliest appointment possible with the best specialist.

 If you are self-paying you don’t need a referral from your GP for a consultation. You can simply refer yourself* and book an appointment.

If you have medical insurance (e.g. Bupa, Axa PPP, Aviva), you will need to contact your insurer to get authorisation for any treatment and, in most cases, you will require a referral letter from your GP.

If you do not have a GP, then we have an in-house private GP practice that you can use. Alternatively we can suggest the most appropriate course of action for you to take, given your location and individual circumstance.

*Please note – for investigations such as X-rays and MRI’s a referral will be required. However, we may be able to arrange this for you through our on-site private GP.
