Consultant Biography
Dr Piers Clifford is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Hammersmith Campus, where he is the Lead Cardiologist for coronary intervention, and at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust Wycombe where he is Chairman of the Division of Medicine. At Wycombe Hospital he has developed highly successful angioplasty and investigative units which are unrivalled by other district Hospitals. Dr Clifford has also recently joined the Cardiology team at the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth.
He is particularly interested in atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat), the modern treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), syncope (fainting), chest pain, breathlessness and inherited cardiomyopathies. He regularly performs over 350 coronary angioplasty procedures (clearing a narrowed or blocked artery) each year, as well as running busy NHS and private outpatient clinics.
After graduating with a First Class Degree from Oxford University, he completed his medical training at St Mary’s Hospital, London. He then completed specialist training in Cardiology and General Internal Medicine at the Hammersmith Hospital, becoming a Consultant Cardiologist in 1999. Having gained an MD in the genetics of ventricular hypertrophy he continues to have an active research interest in molecular cardiology and coronary intervention.
