An emergency service for the older person with a likely fracture following a fall. This is a 24/hrs day multidisciplinary service with Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons, Consultant Physicians, nurses, physiotherapist and occupational therapists all working together to treat the cause of the fall as well as getting you home as quickly as possible.
This service was designed to reduce the pressure on casualty departments by providing a direct admission facility for people seeking private healthcare.
The typical patient is an older person who has fallen and broken their hip, in our service we have a team on Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons on call 24 hours a day who will treat the fracture and a team of carers who start planning safe discharge on admission to keep the stay in hospital as short as possible.
One particular feature of this service is that we also investigate the reason for the fall. It is not always due to a simple trip over the cat, often it is caused by a medical problem such as low blood pressure or heart disease.
By involving the Consultant Physician at the point of admission, we endeavour to reduce the likelihood of readmission to hospital.
One telephone call to the Duty Manager 24 hours a day is all it takes. Call 020 7806 4000 and ask to speak to the 08 bleep holder and we will do everything else.
We do need to speak to a medical practitioner to establish suitability to access the service.
Although the service is designed specifically for the needs of the elderly we recognise that there are other forms of orthopaedic trauma and we are always happy to discuss emergency admissions or outpatient care.
During working hours please call the Director of Operations on 020 7806 4000 bleep 11 or the number above outside of this time. Not all trauma requires admission and urgent care can be provided in most situations.
This service is not suitable for people involved in road traffic accidents or people who have, as a result of their trauma, been knocked unconscious.
