The Breast Imaging Unit offers Mammography, Ultrasound and other specialist investigations for both routine screening and symptomatic patients.
Working in close association with a number of leading breast surgeons based in the outpatient department, we are committed to providing high quality investigations to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of breast problems and are very proud to be part of the BUPA approved Breast Care Unit here at “John & Lizzies”.
In February 2006 we installed a state-of-the-art “GE Senographe Full Field Digital Mammography system” to ensure we offer our patients the best possible examination with shorter examination times, lower radiation doses, and excellent image quality.
We hold a number of Breast Imaging Clinics throughout the week. During these clinics a consultant radiologist is available to report mammograms and perform ultrasound examinations. We encourage patients to make appointments during these clinics so that additional mammographic views or breast ultrasound can be performed straight away and reporting times can be kept to a minimum.
Self referral mammography is available for women over the age of 40 who have no obvious breast problems and have not had mammography within the past 12 months. N.B. Women noticing a lump or any breast changes are advised to see their GP for immediate referral to a Breast Care Specialist or referral for a symptomatic mammogram.
This service is available to all patients, referred by a registered medical practitioner.
