Abdominal symptoms such as rectal bleeding, change in bowel habit, abdominal painn are common, distressing and can be worrying for patients. In most cases the symptoms are not due to serious underlying problems (haemarroids, fissures, IBS) however, in some patients serious diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease (Ulcerative Colitis/Crohn's disease), or bowel cancer can be the underlying problem. Early diagnosis and treatment helps to reduce morbidity and mortality from these conditions. In the case of bowel cancer screening for detection of polyps (and then subsequent removal) can also prevent the development of this condition.
At J & E's we have established a unique multidisciplinary colorectal group. It comprises GI physicians, surgeons, radiologists, histopathologists and oncologists. In addition there is access to dieticians, psychologists and nutritionists.
We offer an uptodate service with diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy (including one-stop services), modern surgical practices (including laparoscopic assisted resections) and state of the art imaging (a brand new 64 slice CT scanner which allows true virtual colonoscopy).
I hope you find this Journal a useful introduction to the members of the colorectal group and the services we offer.
