The healthpod

The healthpod is London’s first hospital based facility specifically designed for assessing, testing, and optimising your health, wellbeing and activity.

Using a personalized approach and state of the art equipment, the healthpod provides a comprehensive health and lifestyle assessment with professional tailored reports and one on one personal feedback. Once your health levels have been established, an action plan is then devised. This includes access to professional advice relating to training, recovery, nutrition, performance and health.

Unique, State of the Art Technology

The healthpod uses the latest heart beat technology software from optima-life*, together with a number of other physiological measurement tools, to accurately assess your personal health. This sophisticated software analyzes how your body is coping and reacting with everyday life, stress and exercise. 

This lifestyle assessment requires you to wear a special heart rate monitor for a minimum of 24 hours. Wearing the belt allows us to record the level of stress that you are experiencing throughout the day. Once the data has been downloaded and assessed by our specialists, it will reveal how you are coping with your life. We will be able to answer the following questions:

  • Are you experiencing good quality recovery while you are sleeping?
  • Are you undertaking enough physical activity to have health promoting benefits for your body?
  • How is your body coping with the demands you are placing on it?

A professional team working with you

The healthpod team consists of experienced professionals specializing in sports science, exercise science, nutrition, sports medicine, therapeutic massage and stress management. 

Health & Wellbeing Assessment at the healthpod

The Health & Wellbeing assessment includes the initial assessment and feedback session plus motivational support throughout the first stage of your programme.


Part 1

Assessing you – Initial Assessment

Your assessment is designed to highlight how your body is coping, and will also show you how successful you can be in achieving optimal health, lifestyle and fitness.

When you come to the healthpod your assessment will last one hour and will include the following:

  • Blood examination (optional) *
  • Blood Pressure
  • Body composition measurements (height, weight, waist and hip circumference, body fat percentage)
  • A test** where your cardio-respiratory fitness (VO2max) is assessed using Firstbeat technology
  • Setting up with the heart rate monitor to wear for a minimum of 24 hours
     

     *A note on the blood examination

The blood examination is optional but advisable. It is designed to examine your risk for developing chronic diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes and Coronary Heart Disease. If you haven’t had a blood examination in the last year then we advise you to take one. If you have completed a blood examination in the last year then we ask that you bring your results along with you. 

The following are tested in the examination: full lipid profile (total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol), and glucose.


     **A note on the cardio-respiratory test

This test is used to assess your cardio-respiratory fitness level. The test includes either a treadmill walking test or a treadmill running test. The healthpod team will select the appropriate test for you, based on your medical and exercise history, and on your physical capability.


Part 2

Understanding you – Your feedback

Your feedback appointment at the healthpod will highlight the areas of your lifestyle that require improvement in order to achieve optimum health. The healthpod team will provide you with a 12 week individualized plan to help you achieve your goals.


Feedback Appointment  

Duration: 1 hour

Your session will include:

  • feedback on all examinations
  • detailed reports on your health and fitness status
  • lifestyle coaching and goal setting
  • 12 week personal health and exercise plan
  • demonstration of relaxation exercises (if required)
     

Motivating you along the way

During your 12 week plan you will be contacted either by phone or by email to discuss how you are getting on. Further guidance will be provided to help you to keep achieving your goals, or assist you in getting back on track if you are having difficulties.
 
 

Further Assessments

Duration: 1 hour

  • Once you have completed your 12 week programme we recommend that you undertake a further assessment at the healthpod. All measurements that were taken during your initial assessment will be re-assessed at this appointment. This will enable us to determine how you are getting on and whether you are achieving your goals. Your progress will be discussed and a new personalised 12 week health and exercise plan will be formulated to help you continue on your new lifestyle journey.
     
     

healthpod Stepping Stones Programme

For many, getting the balance right between work, rest and exercise is not easy, and additional support may be required. So, we have designed a number of courses to help you.  These can either supplement your personalised 12 week health and exercise plan or can be undertaken at a later stage.


Stepping Stones aims to improve your health and wellbeing, and better manage the following areas in your life:

  • stress
  • weight
  • fitness & sports performance
  • general health


Courses are available as optional extras to your Health & Wellbeing Assessment.
