New Foot & Ankle Scanner Added
20th December 2017
We are delighted to announce that the new pedCat scanner is now available at the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth.
The pedCAT enables weight bearing ultra low dose CT scans on both feet simultaneously and is the first to be available in a UK private hospital. The full 3D volume is ready to view in less than three minutes and shows unobstructed views of the foot and ankle from any angle. Based at the London Foot & Ankle Centre, the pedCAT scanner provides our patients and Consultants the latest in imaging technology.
Leading Consultant Foot and Ankle Surgeon, Mr Mark Davies explains the importance of this innovation in foot scanning. “There probably is no Consultant foot and ankle surgeon in the country who finds non-weight bearing x-rays acceptable in the assessment of bony structural abnormalities of the foot and ankle. Until recently, CT scans have been non-weight bearing and have therefore been of limited use when assessing a structural abnormality, particularly flexible ones.
“With the advent of the pedCAT scanner we can now look at the bony anatomy as it is when weight bearing and this allows us to plan surgical intervention with much more accuracy and predictability, and as a result it is a major step forward in terms of planning and performance of complex orthopaedic foot and ankle procedures.”
London Foot & Ankle Centre is an internationally renowned clinic, attracting patients from around the world and working with Premier League football clubs, UK Athletics and many more elite sports people. The centre was founded in 2003 by world-renowned surgeon, Mr Mark Davies, to improve treatment standards by creating a service concentrating wholly upon the foot and ankle.
