Hospital of Saint John and Saint Elizabeth - you are in good hands

Spiritual Care

The mission of the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth is to serve the sick and the dying and to care for the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of the total person, whatever their race, creed or colour.

Our philosophy of caring stems from our foundation in 1856 by the Sisters of Mercy.  Their combination of spiritual and compassionate values remains at the heart of the Hospital.

In the centre of the Hospital is our Church (which was originally built on the site of Great Ormond Street and moved to this site in the 1890s).

The Church remains, as it has always been used by patients and staff of the Hospital and Hospice, for the Knights and Dames of Malta, for the people of the parish of St John’s Wood and for visitors.

The Church is open 24 hours a day, mass times are:-

  • Sundays 11am
  • Wednesdays at 12:15pm

Special Services can be arranged through the local Parish, Church of Our Lady, The Parish of St John’s Wood, 54 Lodge Road, St John’s Wood NW8 8LA, telephone number: 020 7286 3214, e-mail: St JohnsWood@rcdow-org.uk, web address: www.ourladysjw.org.uk.

Today the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth provides a range of services to meet the needs of the local community from acute care through to the hospice which cares for those with life threatening illnesses.

Pastoral care is available to all our patients from every denomination, 24 hours a day and can be arranged through the wards.
