Our Trauma Unit offers an emergency service for the older person with a likely hip fracture following a fall. This is a 24 hour, 7 days a week, multidisciplinary service with Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons, Consultant Physicians, nurses, physiotherapist and occupational therapists all working together to treat the cause of the fall as well as getting the patient home as quickly as possible.
This service was designed to reduce the pressure on casualty departments by providing a direct admission facility for people seeking private healthcare.
One particular feature of this service is that we also investigate the reason for the fall. It is not always due to a simple trip over the cat, often it is caused by a medical problem such as low blood pressure or heart disease. By involving the Consultant Physician at the point of admission, we endeavour to reduce the likelihood of readmission to hospital.
Please Note: This service is not suitable for people involved in road traffic accidents or people who have, as a result of their trauma, been knocked unconscious.
How to Access the Service
One telephone call to the Duty Manager 24 hours a day is all it takes. Call 020 7806 4000 and ask to speak to the 08 bleep holder and we will do everything else.
We do need to speak to a medical practitioner to establish suitability to access the service.
This service is covered by most medical insurance companies.
