Pilates Classes

pilates

Pilates is a technique that emphasises the importance of exercising using a stable central core, namely the deeper abdominal muscle. By developing the deep abdominal and back muscles, a stable base can be created which in turn improves posture and core control through your spine.

For information on Antenatal and Postnatal pilates classes run by our expert Women's Health Physiotherapist, please visit our Women's Physiotherapy website (link will open in a new window) or contact physiotherapy on 020 7806 4010 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Pilates can also correct muscular imbalances in the body. Some muscles are too tight and over active and others may be weak or under used. This imbalance can place undue stress on your body leading to pain and decreased function.

Pilates can improve...

  • pain
  • posture
  • tone and condition
  • endurance of core postural muscles
  • minimise the reoccurrence of a back problem
  • relaxation

ClassesClasses are small and friendly and are taken by a qualified physiotherapist who is also trained in Pilates.

Before joining the class all participants require an individual assessment with a physiotherapist to ensure that the correct muscles are isolated and individual needs identified.

With a maximum number of eight in each class, the focus is on individual attention to ensure that the clients can work safely at their own pace.

Classes are run on Monday and Thursday evenings and are held in the Physiotherapy Department.
Each course lasts for six weeks. We aim to ensure that the participant completes course by providing an extra ‘catch-up’ session should they miss a class. This is held at the end of the course and is open to everyone should they wish to attend.

  • Beginner classes are at 6pm — 7pm
  • Intermediate classes at 7pm — 8pm
