Facilities

The Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth is one of the largest and best equipped independent hospitals in the UK. It has an extensive range of out-patient clinics and general practitioner services and 155 in-patient beds in single rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom.

A continual investment programme ensures that the hospital maintains the facilities it needs to stay at the front of medical technology and achieve the highest level of individual patient care. It offers:

  • On-site CT and MRI scanners for looking deep inside the body
  • High-energy surgical lasers for removing kidney stones
  • A pressure chamber for treating patients with complex tissue disorders, carbon monoxide poisoning and diving injuries
  • Operating theatres with the latest “laminar flow” systems which suck clean air through the room to reduce the risk of infection
  • Three adult intensive care beds for treating the sickest patients.

A £11 million development due to be completed in 2007 will provide 27 additional out-patient consulting rooms, a minor operations theatre and a new NHS GP practice for local residents. The development will also provide an enlarged in-patient unit and day care facilities for the St John’s hospice, and an educational centre for training staff.
